Daleks scared the crap out of me when I was a kid. That creepy synthesized voice saying, "Get the humanoids!" Then spraying people with the death vapor. Terrifying!
The new series did a good job of making them look like a real threat, but somehow I think the original series did a better job of making them into a ‘hide behind the couch’ sort of creepy.
