if you like steam threshing check out Prairie Village in Madison SD. Nice pioneer village and they hold a steam threshing jamboree every fall. I worked there for years as a kid and had a blast.
Unfortunately the threshing jamboree is always after the start of the school year here so I haven't been able to geet my kids back there for it yet.
Now THAT is a way to spend a summer weekend. Great photos. (I love a man in uniform).
I am going to try and meet up with your Mom and Dad next summer sometime at one of these things. This summer just got away from me with the work activity I had this year.

Yes eastern SD is a bit of a drive from Chicago. But if you ever catch yourself in the area in late Aug/early sept. Keep it in mind.

Hey good seein' ya at GBR-IV, guess-what, your Grandma Bea is the same age as my Mom! I can't get her to take up shootin' though.
Bea is going to Scheel's at Coralville today to see if they have a 9 shot Taurus .22 revolver. She shot one at GBR, and wants one REAL bad.
