April 15, Buy a Gun day

For some reason this sneaks up on me every year.  Not that I'm short on firearms around the house but missing an excuse to buy one just isn't right.

Unfortunately, this month's discretionary fund has to go to plumbing, and after paying for this.

All that's left over is about enough for this.

I wonder if Fernco make's choke adapters?

You didn't put a fernco under the concrete, did you?

Besides, I thought you were doing a checkvalve, mot a gate valve.

Fernco makes donuts too. (I'm not screwing around trying to pound lead where there's no room for a hammer.)

Actually that's a combination valve. It has a gate on one side and check valve on the other. Both josam and smith make them. I don't trust the check valve entirely so having the ability to cut it off completely is nice.

Been putting ferncos under concrete for years. Sewer at moms old house has had a couple in place since 1967. The rubber seems to deteriorate in contact with oxygen- buried, it seems not to die as readily. And i'm with mr J, calking a lead joint underground is no happy fun.

Say that on a plumbing forum and it will turn into a virtual brawl. From what I've seen the biggest issues from these is leakage from non banded couplings on heavy pipes with insufficient backfill.

I'm guessing this valve is over 80# and just over a foot long so it's a big point load and probably enough to shear an unsupported neoprene gasket. So I have push gasket donuts on both sides and a banded mission coupling downstream of the new combo-wye clean out.

Indeed. As if breaking up concrete that has already been broken up were some tragedy. Sometimes there just isnt room.
